The Start Of A New Painting Series

The original story came to me maybe around a month prior to starting them, in the same fashion as my previous paintings. A vision of the story, movie-like. Sometimes it placed me within as the lead character and other times I was observing, attempting to direct, imploring them to do as I wished. I knew the following morning these lived scenes would become paintings.

During the period before starting to paint, I knew something was going to change. Which has got me thinking about growth during periods of rest, or what we know as 'rest' - not physically doing. I understand this concept when it comes to working out and I even remember listening to a bodybuilder talking about getting stronger by just thinking and feeling the movements. I have always done something similar with football, running simulations of plays. But when it comes to paintings, the simulations, the imagining if of the final work, are of compositions and colours. Even though painting is still a physical act. I have never considered how I will move with the brush.

The role of 'time' is once again a major part of these paintings. I know how things moved during these acts and the flow of the story. More so in these, I feel I allowed the scenes to express themselves. It's me trying to work out and understand the motion and flow through a time-less medium. I feel that's where the fruits of the conversation I have with paint is, as my works dance around surrealism and futurism, expressionism and impressionism.
