Monumental Cemetery of Milan, Sculptural Tombs & Monuments

I'd put this one the must see list. It has a stunning entrance building that is impressive in itself that fences off the city, a gateway to this time-blurred cemetery.

It’s a charged place but it doesn’t feel heavy with death. In some sections, I had to keep reminding myself it wasn’t a sculpture park. The mourning comes from the side of love. There are a few memorials around that depict a similar story, a father/mother with their child holding the other dying parent.

We're also looking at wealth and continual Milan family histories, some of the sculptures and mausoleums were relatively recent. The photographs placed on top of some of the memorials were a snap back to the real.

It was definitely a respected place. A tree had broken near the top and damaged one of the sculptures on impact. And we saw a black cat. It was resistant to our usual cat coercion tactics.

There is a list of famous graves on wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cimitero_Monumentale_di_Milano
