The story begins after a friend recommended the book ‘Deep Work’ to me. It left me with one thought in mind. The idea of pure focus. A great novelist retreating to the woods for months to write their next great work, to then return to humanity and share it. Would this make the work ‘pure’? Would the lack of reading others’ words allow them to write THEIR story? …. How much of what I was making was me? Obviously, it’s hard to exist without influence and what makes ‘me’ and my thoughts ‘mine’ is questionable, but we understand that. This is building on from who I am right now.
I pledged to make my next ‘great work’. I reduced my intake of all media, not just social. I wanted to be in control of my ‘influence’ diet, reduce the noise and let myself speak. I kept a visual & written journal which is the backbone of the whole album and the genesis of the visual aspects of this work. All these tracks are rooted in an open attitude to the playing of sound, the attitude of - I’m playing the guitar, or I’m hitting it. Iced with a freedom to push these sounds until they were unrecognisable as instruments.
Buy the full story in print.
The full story of the ‘Everything Always Returns’. I kept a sketchbook during making the album, which was the foundation of many of the tracks. This Art Book is part snippets from that sketchbook, photography and paintings.
This Artwork book is another integral part of the work. Like all parts of the work, created 100% by me.
Depending on when you joined my musical journey, you may have heard my earlier sounds. I began making Dubstep & Dnb, onto Garage and found my soul connection in House music. My open attitude when making this album brought me full circle. It’s house, tech house, techno, RnB, hip hop, flamenco, baile funk, funk, soul, jazz, soundtracks, field recordings and garage.
Every element of this album is part of the work as a whole. Naming it and subsequently figuring out how to write it was a long path with divergence.
Everything Always Returns - Hand lettering poster.
Archival quality Fine Art Giclée on 310gsm Hahnemühle German Etching Paper - which has the exact same make-up as the original is painted on - 100% α-cellulose. Acid- and lignin-free. There is a visible structure to the paper which gives a textured look and feel close to the original.
It is certified ISO 9706. Which means it conforms to museum quality for the highest age resistance.
I scan the original (not photograph) so it is as accurate as can be. Including all the oily lumps and strokes of the originals. And then if it is needed I colour-correct on a colour-accurate studio monitor with the original in front of me.

Day 6. In yesterday's portrait session, I mentioned exploring more of the non-physical aspects of this process. I first stared into the mirror until the physical world began to shift. I have bumped into 'mirror scrying' before, but it's not something I've explored properly. The first two are with my eyes closed after looking, and the last I maintained my blurring focus and did my best to draw the experience. This has been a very different experience to the others so far.
