‘Sunrise’ Played On Amazing Radio & A Few Thoughts on Creating With Originality

Thanks to Mark for the great words on my latest single, ‘Sunrise’. It was played on ‘Amazing Beats’ on Amazing Radio show on 5th August. It’s always great to hear what Mark has to say about my music and hear his musical connections and references. Here’s the album that Mark spoke about from Circus Company https://circuscompany.bandcamp.com/album/snuggle-slap

When Mark referenced this album it made me think about my work within the context of everything that has come before.

I think we all like the idea of being out in front on our own, breaking new land. The process contributes to this feeling too. Like I had written before about these latest tracks, I intentionally removed as much influence as I could during creation. I’d love to take that idea literally, get a cabin in the woods for a month.

As I’ve been writing this I’ve managed to wrestle my thinking out. I do pursue originality. But, without focusing on others. It’s about what comes from me / within me. I don’t act based on what others have done, or are doing. So it’s very interesting to hear someone say I have a ‘sound’ (and Mark’s not the first person to say so). If its serendipitous, or an inevitable consequence of any one of us following ourselves, I have no idea.

I came to the conclusion that the aim is just to move the needle slightly and then at some point it’s another’s turn to move the needle on from where you left it.
